Student Publications takes award at advertising convention
MARYVILLE, Mo. - Northwest's Student Publications Department brought home another award recently, this time from the College Newspaper Business and Advertising Managers, Inc. Convention on March 27 in Los Angeles.
Students on The Northwest Missourian and the Student Publications Advertising Department earned third place for Best Display Ad Campaign for newspapers with a circulation under 30,000. Chayse Barr, a sophomore interactive digital media-visual imaging major from Maryville, designed the Delbert's Garage advertisements that earned the award.
Kaytee King, a senior art major from Independence, serves as ad design manager in the Student Publications Department. Kristy Thompson, a senior marketing/management major from Cameron, is ad sales manager.
The Missourian's ad campaign was picked out of more than 20 entries in the category, including ads from Washington University in St. Louis and Columbia College in Chicago. Sarah Wayman, advertising/general media manager of Student Publications, noted The Missourian was competing against larger schools with advertising departments of 15 or more students. The Missourian's advertising department consists of eight students.
"The advertising managers, sales account executives, and ad designers have all worked really hard as a team this year to serve the readers and advertisers of The Northwest Missourian, NwMissouriNews.com and Tower Yearbook," Wayman said. "So to be recognized nationally amongst CNBAM member schools with student populations of 10,000 to 20,000-plus and campus newspaper circulations of 10,000 to 30,000 is exciting and very motivating."
Northwest's Student Publications consist of The Northwest Missourian, Tower Yearbook and the Heartland View online magazine. Northwest is the only university in the nation with three All-American publications. Click here for more information about the Student Publications Department.
