2010 Northwest Week will feature bowling, drive-in movie, concert, carnival
MARYVILLE, Mo. - The Northwest community is invited to come on down to the fair - the "Bearcat County Fair" - next week for the University's annual Northwest Week.
The annual week, organized by Student Senate and the Student Activities Council, celebrates Northwest with a full schedule of social activities geared toward Northwest students. This year's carnival-themed Northwest Week includes bowling, a car show, a drive-in movie and a concert featuring up-and-coming country artists Emerson Drive & Chuck Wicks.
"It's bigger and better than last year," SAC Special Events Chair Angalena Scavuzzo said. "Everything is free all week long, and we think it's going to be really awesome. We're trying to make Northwest Week something that people look forward to every year. If anything, come out and get some free food and entertainment for the day."
Among the highlights, the week will feature a "Candy Cab," a spin on the popular TV show "Cash Cab." Northwest students will be patrolling the campus in a golf cart and award candy to anyone who can correctly answer Northwest trivia questions.
On Tuesday, students are invited to attend a car show and drive-in movie in Parking Lot 62, located west of the Ron Houston Performing Arts Center. The car show will give a chance for students to show off their cars, and judges will award prizes to the best cars. For the movie, a section of the lot will be reserved for lawn chairs and blankets.
On Wednesday, a carnival at the center of campus will include a sideshow, games and food.
Additionally, the Student Senate is hosting a blood drive from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, in The Station.
All events will be taking place at the J.W. Jones Student Union and the Bell Tower, unless noted. For more information, call the Campus Activities office at 660.562.1226.
