Children's book author to speak at luncheon

Born Yesterday: The Diary of a Young Journalist

MARYVILLE, Mo. - Children's writer James Solheim and author of "Born Yesterday: The Diary of a Young Journalist" will be the featured author at the next Local Author Series luncheon.

The luncheon, sponsored by the Bearcat Bookstore, is open to the public and will begin at noon on Monday, April 5 in the J.W. Jones Student Union's First Ladies Dining Room. Attendees are invited to bring their own lunch. Complimentary beverages and desserts will be provided.

Solheim will give a 15-minute presentation, followed by a 15-minute question-and-answer session. Books will be available for purchase following the luncheon.

Published this month by Philomel Books, "Born Yesterday" received a three-star review from Publisher's Weekly and was named a Junior Library Guild Selection. The book follows the thoughts, hopes and dreams of a hyper-observant infant and his fascination with grabbing his feet, flinging food and a big sister who has her own hairbrush.

"We are delighted to have James come back to Maryville to speak about his latest book, 'Born Yesterday,'" said Scott Yocum, manager of the Bearcat Bookstore. "Having the opportunity to have a children's author on campus is a pleasure. This Local Author Series is something that we hope can continue to provide a variety of authors and topics for both the Northwest and Maryville communities."
