MARYVILLE, Mo. - Staff, students, classes and organizations are interested in providing support and assistance to Haiti. To do that, the university has organized a way to contribute money via the Northwest Web site.
Officials are recommending that cash is needed and will get to the front lines the quickest. A simple way to contribute directly to the Red Cross is:
Or donate online using the secure International Response Fund provided by Red Cross
Individuals also can donate $10 to the Red Cross by texting "Haiti" to 90999. The effort is backed by the U.S. State Department, and funds will go to support American Red Cross relief efforts in Haiti.
According to the Red Cross:
"It's one of the most horrific humanitarian disasters of our time. Millions need our help in the wake of Haiti's catastrophic earthquake. Hospitals, schools, and homes are destroyed. Frightened survivors are homeless and in urgent need of food, water and emergency care. The Red Cross has been working day and night to provide emergency relief and emotional support.
Please help-- make a donation today. Your swift action will help save the day by providing immediate relief and long-term support to victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti. You'll help rush emergency food, water, temporary shelter and medical services to suffering children, families, and the elderly.
We urgently need your help. Our ongoing relief efforts depend on generosity of caring people like you."
