Tickets available for 36th annual Yuletide Feaste
Tickets are on sale now for Northwest's 36th annual Yuletide Feaste, a Renaissance-themed holiday celebration featuring more than 50 musicians, singers, actors, lords, ladies and royal personages in full regalia. This year's Feaste begins at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 4, and Saturday, Dec. 5, in the J.W. Jones Student Union Ballroom.
Sponsored by the Department of Music, the Yuletide Feaste offers a glimpse of the Christmas season as celebrated in the royal halls of Tudor England more than 400 years ago. Highlights include a banquet of 16th century-style delicacies and performances by the Northwest Madraliers, Recorder Consort, Royale Brass Quintet, Northwest theatre students and others. Dr. David Oehler and his wife, Erin Oehler, will serve as the Feaste's king and queen.
Dr. Brian Lanier, Yuletide Feaste director and associate professor of music, has described the evening as a journey back to the days of Renaissance Europe, complete with period songs, dancing and entertainment.
"The Yuletide Feaste is a wonderful opportunity for people to usher in the holiday season with their family and friends," said Lanier, who also serves as director of the Madraliers, which does double duty as the Celebration show choir during the spring trimester. "We always have a great time doing this, and it's a wonderful communitywide event with beautiful music and costumes and outstanding food."
As in years past, the ballroom will be transformed into a royal banquet hall complete with banners, canopies, a grand entryway and candelabras. Members of the Northwest Madraliers will greet guests with carols and other traditional music.
This year's Renaissance-style menu includes a fall medley salad, carved steamship of beef, bacon-wrapped chicken breast with sherry mushroom cream, honey-glazed acorn squash, balsamic-glazed root vegetables, wild rice pilaf, roasted garlic mashed potatoes, assorted rustic breads, apple and pear turnover with caramel sauce and vanilla bean ice cream, coffee and tea.
Yuletide Feaste tickets cost $27.95 per person and can be purchased at the music/art office on the first floor of the Olive DeLuce Fine Arts Building, room 101. Payment can be made using cash, check, credit card or a University ID, and students can charge one ticket on their Aladine account.
