Street Beat, a Los Angeles-based urban drum and dance show that brings a high-energy explosion of urban rhythm, hip hop moves, break dance acrobatics and original entertainment for all ages, is Northwest's next Encore performing arts series production. It begins at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, in the Mary Linn Auditorium at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts.
Street Beat creator, Ben Hansen, and his eight-member company of drummers and dancers perform what critics have called "... an urbanized journey through percussion" that brings the raw rhythmic originality of many popular street-style performances together in a stage production involving everyday items intermixed with innovative visual elements.
Tickets cost $25 (orchestra) and $23 (balcony). Children's tickets are $15 and $13, and Northwest faculty and staff can purchase discounted orchestra tickets for $23. Admission is free for Northwest students with a valid Bearcat ID card. Tickets may be purchased at the Student Services Center on the first floor of the Administration Building or at the box office prior to the show.
Optional valet parking is available by making a free-will donation to Northwest's Alternative Spring Break program. Patrons can have their cars parked across the street from the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts and returned to the main entrance after the show.
