The upcoming Hawaiian cruise offered by the Tourin' Bearcats, the travel program for Northwest alumni and friends, has been extended by one day with no additional cost to travelers. In addition, the trip is filling up quickly, and travelers are urged to make their reservations soon.
Originally scheduled as an eight-day, seven-night excursion departing May 29, 2010, the trip is now nine days in duration, departing May 28.
"Because of the arrival time of our flight from Kansas City to Honolulu, we were going to be cutting it a little close, especially if we encountered any flight delays," said Steve Sutton, director of alumni relations. "Our travel agent, Cotter Travel, was able to negotiate a package deal with the hotel and airline that allows us to arrive in Honolulu Friday, May 28, enjoy all Honolulu has to offer, spend the night there and then board the ship the next day - all for the same price we were originally quoted."
After spending one day and night in Honolulu, travelers will board the Norwegian Cruise Lines' Pride of America ship, the first new U.S.-flagged cruise ship in nearly 50 years. The 2,100-passenger Pride of America is a Freestyle Cruise, which is void of schedules and offers complete freedom and flexibility. The ship departs from Honolulu, and ports throughout the cruise include Kahului, Maui, Hilo, Hawaii, Kona, Hawaii, and Nawiliwili, Kauai. In addition to a Bearcat evening social with Dr. John Jasinski, Northwest president, an evening sail by Mount Kilauea and an afternoon cruise of Napali Coast, an optional tour to Lanai is available as well as numerous other excursions.
The trip, which is open to the public, is now scheduled for May 28 to June 5, 2010. The cost is $2,195 per person, based on double occupancy, and includes roundtrip airfare from Kansas City, insurance, all transfers and port and government taxes. Upgrades are available.
Sutton said the response to the trip has been outstanding. Joining travelers on the Northwest Alumni Association-sponsored trip will be President Jasinski, First Lady Denise Jasinski and their children, in celebration of the couple's 25 th wedding anniversary.
Reservations, with a $250 deposit, are due Jan. 22, 2010, and final payment is due by March 8, 2010. Checks should be made out to Cotter Travel and mailed to Northwest Missouri State University, Alumni House, 800 University Dr., Maryville, MO 64468.
