Sept. 27, 2009
Northwest alumni and friends participated in the 2009 "Hit 'em and Hold 'em" baseball alumni weekend Sept. 5-6.
"It's nice to get as many guys as possible back for the alumni weekend ... to get people reacquainted and talking about Bearcat baseball," said head coach Darin Loe. "It was a great atmosphere all weekend."
The weekend began with the second annual golf outing at Mozingo Lake Golf Course, which included 60 golfers. "Championship" flight winners were Jake Bradshaw, Jacob Clevenger, Mitch Clevenger and Todd Schonhoff. "A" flight winners were Dr. Bob Boerigter, Neil Elliott, Jeff Foot and Donnell Robidoux. The winner of the "Pete Rose Homerun Challenge" for the longest drive with a baseball bat was Bill Disselhoff.
Many items were bid on at the end of the day at the silent auction and included a Kansas City Royals Joakim Soria autographed baseball, a KC Royals Zack Greinke autographed baseball, a KC Royals George Brett autographed baseball, an Albert Pujols artist print, a Texas Rangers team jacket and a Northwest baseball team fleece, to name a few.
Saturday evening, 27 people participated in the poker tournament. Dan Sherbo was the winner, Kelly Quinlin placed second and John White finished third.
On Sunday, 30 people took part in the annual alumni baseball game at Bearcat Field between the baseball alumni and the 2009-10 Northwest baseball squad. A homerun derby also took place. The age 30 and over champion was Dan Sherbo, and Ryley Westman won the under 30 contest.
