Northwest Missouri State University has announced the appointment of Dr. Tim McMahon as its new Vice President of Marketing. McMahon, who has a distinguished national reputation as a business communicator and public relations professional in both the private and academic sectors, will begin his new duties after the first of the year.
An accomplished marketing communications executive, McMahon headed corporate marketing and communications at ConAgra Foods, Inc. He also founded and managed a regional advertising agency bearing his name for more than a decade. Before that he headed advertising for Pizza Hut, Inc., and served as founding marketing director for Godfather's Pizza, Inc. Most recently Dr. McMahon has taught strategic communications and marketing at New York University and Elon University.
"With an extensive background in business from Main Street to Wall Street and experience in higher education ranging from Elon, the up-and-coming school to watch, to New York University, one of the finest private universities in the world, Dr. McMahon is in a unique position to recognize the opportunities that abound at Northwest Missouri State," said Northwest President John Jasinski.
"Maryville and this region overall have demonstrated resilience and leadership in tough times by attracting high quality educators and world-class business and industry," Dr. Jasinski said. "This is an enormous asset in attracting people to Northwest Missouri State and offers competitive advantages for the university."
"There are many great stories to be told about Northwest Missouri State University, and I am eager to get the word out," Dr. McMahon said in accepting his new post. "In my visits I found the faculty, staff and students to be engaged in critical thinking, creative problem solving and innovative new ways to meet the needs of this region and the country overall. Spreading the word about Northwest is the best marketing we can do."
Dr. McMahon holds a B.G.S. degree from the University of Nebraska-Omaha, an M.A. from Seton Hall University and a Ph.D. from Gonzaga University. He has taught undergraduate and graduate courses at the business schools of Creighton University and the University of Nebraska-Omaha and in the M.A. program in strategic communications at Seton Hall.
As a clinical professor in the M.S. Program in Public Relations and Corporate Communications at New York University in 2008, the program won PRWeek's PR Program of the Year award.
Dr. McMahon is the author of a chapter on integrated marketing included in the best-selling textbook Reputation Management, published by Routledge and used by such organizations as Johnson & Johnson and the U.S. Marine Corps. He has published academic papers on leadership, digital media and distance learning and presented at international academic conferences in the areas of distance education and leadership.
He and his wife, Debbie, have been married for 35 years. They have three adult children, Tim, Jr., Maureen, and Ryan.
