Northwest's Encore performing arts series resumes this fall with a performance by Intersection, a string trio specializing in crowd-pleasing programs that intertwine the best of classical, jazz and popular musical styles.
The Intersection concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, at the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts on the Northwest campus. Single-show tickets for all Encore shows cost $25 (orchestra) and $23 (balcony). Children's tickets are $15 and $13, and Northwest faculty and staff can purchase discounted orchestra tickets for $23.
Season tickets (orchestra only) cost $100 for passes to all five Encore shows and are on sale now. General ticket sales for Intersection begin Monday, August, 31. However, those who contribute to the series at the $25 Patron level through the new Friends of Encore program administered by the Northwest Foundation may purchase advance tickets beginning Wednesday, Aug. 19.
An additional five Friends of Encore giving levels extend from Understudy ($200-$399) to Superstar ($1,000 and up) and come with various donor premium packages that include season tickets, a subscription to the "Behind the Curtain" Encore newsletter, pre-show receptions and published acknowledgment.
Also new this year is the opportunity for businesses and organizations to support the Encore series as Corporate Affiliates at gift levels ranging from Stagehand ($1,000 gift) to Producer ($7,500 gift).
"We are very excited about these new opportunities for our patrons to support the Encore performing arts series," said Campus Activities Director Angel McAdams. "We have been blessed to have wonderful, continuous support from our patrons year after year and hope that the Friends and Affiliates programs will add to the number of people able to enjoy these world-class artistic and cultural presentations."
Orrie Covert, vice president of university advancement and chief executive of the Northwest Foundation, called the donor program and excellent opportunity for both individuals and businesses to support the arts at Northwest.
"Enhancing access to the performing arts by our students and the public is an important part of Northwest's mission," Covert said. "The Foundation is very pleased to join in this effort to ensure that exceptional, affordable arts programming remains a vital component of our University culture."
Also new to Encore for 2009-'10 is free admission for Northwest students with a valid Bearcat ID card. The sole exception is the Broadway hit, "Hairspray," on March 9, when student tickets will cost $10 and $8. Group discounts return this year, with orchestra seats at $19 and balcony seats at $17 for groups of 10 or more.
Also back for 2009-'10 is optional valet parking. By making a free-will donation to Northwest's Alternative Spring Break program, patrons can have their cars parked across the street from the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts and returned to the main entrance after the show.
