Incoming Northwest President John Jasinski has announced a number of appointments that will fill vacancies in Northwest's senior administration.
New members of Northwest's Leadership Team will include Mary Throener as vice president of human resources and organizational effectiveness and Dan Edmonds as interim vice president of finance and operations.
Throener previously served the institution as director of human resources and had intended on retiring at the end of the month. Instead, she assumes a number of additional duties, including cultivating organizational improvement across operational areas and overseeing the Department of Campus Safety.
"I am quite pleased about this development with Mary, as I believe it will help the University continue to provide stability of leadership and allow us to enhance our culture of excellence," Jasinski said. "It also allows Mary the ability to more effectively utilize her skills and competencies in aiding the University through our next period of change and growth."
Edmonds, a certified public accountant who joined Northwest's professional staff in 1981, has served as the institution's controller since 1996, a job that includes supervision of accounting, payroll and mail/copy services. He succeeds Ray Courter who will retire at the close of the fiscal year on June 30 after 37 years of service to Northwest.
Courter will continue working on behalf of Northwest in a part-time capacity and is expected to play an important role in upcoming University audit activities. He has interest in continuing contributions to economic development initiatives involving the University and in participating in team teaching efforts at the undergraduate and graduate levels.
In addition, Orrie Covert, vice president for institutional advancement and executive director of the Northwest Foundation, will provide temporary oversight for the Office of University Relations until a permanent replacement is hired for Vice President Mary Ann Lowary, who is also retiring at the end of this month.
The appointment of Dr. Douglas Dunham as interim provost was announced June 9. He will take over from Provost Kichoon Yang, who is leaving Northwest to become executive director of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics.
Jasinski assumes the presidency July 1 and has indicated a new Leadership Team structure will be enacted as well.
