Allison Wagner, a senior applied advertising major from Caledonia, Minn., has received a $1,000 scholarship from Nicholson Kovac Inc., a nationally prominent Kansas City-based marketing firm.
Nicholson Kovac, which has had a close relationship with Northwest's Department of Mass Communication for several years, established the scholarship in 2006. The company, which regularly hires Northwest graduates, also donated $1,000 to AdInk, the University's student advertising and marketing club.
Brent Steffens, a Northwest alumnus and senior account executive for Nicholson Kovac, presented the scholarship to Wagner at an AdInk meeting held earlier this month in Wells Hall.
Wagner, named to the President's Honor Roll for the spring and fall trimesters of 2008, has already achieved significant advertising, marketing and communications experience while pursuing her undergraduate degree. She helped develop two ad campaigns for Kansas City Power and Light Co. and has taken advanced coursework in crisis communications.
As a resident assistant for the University's Tower Suites complex, she helps create publicity for floor and campus events and develops programs relating to education, diversity and recreation.
Wagner has been a presenter at Northwest's Celebration of Quality, a seminar featuring exceptional undergraduate academic work, each year since 2005, and is also the recipient of a Residential Life Scholarship.
