Finalists named in Northwest presidential search

The names of the four finalists for the position of Northwest Missouri State University president were announced Wednesday, April 1, by members of the University's Presidential Search Committee.

The finalists are:

All four will make campus visits during April, according to Kenny Daugherty of McRae & Associates, the Atlanta-based firm hired to assist in the search. Daugherty said the 13-member search committee will meet soon after the final candidate visits the Maryville campus in order to decide on a final recommendation to the Northwest Board of Regents, who will select the new president.

The candidate picked by the regents will become the University's tenth president and succeed Dr. Dean L. Hubbard, who will retire Aug. 1 after 25 years as Northwest's chief administrator.

Clark has been at the University of Kansas since 1997, first as dean of the Edwards campus, which is located in Overland Park. Prior to that, he served as the dean of the Rockhurst University School of Management in Kansas City. He began his career in higher education at Syracuse University, where he served in various positions including that of associate dean of the school of management. He holds a bachelor's degree in sociology from Arizona State University, a master's degree in higher education from Colorado State University and a Ph.D. in educational administration from Syracuse.

Jasinski worked as an administrator and faculty member at Northwest from 1986 until 2001, serving as associate provost and chair and assistant professor for the Department of Mass Communication. He was named to his present position in 2007. Jasinski earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Michigan University and completed his Ph.D. at the University Nebraska-Lincoln.

Porterfield is an alumnus of Northwest, where he worked as an administrator for 16 years. He joined the University staff in 1990 as director of the J.W. Jones Student Union and was named vice president for student affairs in 1997. Porterfield left in 2006 to assume his current position at Saint Louis University. He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from Northwest and earned an Ed.D. through the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Shepard was named to his present position in 2003. He joined the Florida Gulf Coast University administration in 1995 as assistant dean of student services and was promoted to dean in 2002. Prior to his work at Florida Gulf Coast, he was a housing administrator at the University of North Texas-Denton. He holds a bachelor of science degree in mathematics education from Northern Arizona University, and a master's in business administration from the University of North Texas. Shepard earned his Ph.D. from Florida International University in Miami.

Campus interviews and tours by individual candidates are scheduled for April 13-14, April 16-17, April 20-21 and April 27-28.
