Mary Ann Lowary, Northwest's vice president for university relations, has announced her retirement from the University, effective July 1.
Lowary has served as the lead administrator for the University's primary communications office and has overall responsibility for institutional marketing, advertising, media relations, publications and photography. In addition, she oversees operations of KXCV/KRNW, Northwest's public radio station.
During her five years at Northwest, Lowary has overseen the expansion of advertising and communications methods to include techniques that emphasize the Internet, social networking and Web advertising.
Together with Dr. Jon Rickman, Northwest's vice president for information systems, she co-chaired a team of University staff members charged with redesigning the University's Web site and modifying its style and content to focus on marketing and recruitment.
Before coming to Northwest, Lowary was the media relations coordinator at Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa. She holds a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia and, before entering higher education, was a newspaper reporter, editor and publisher in Missouri and Montana. She also worked at papers in Illinois and Iowa.
"There is much to love about Northwest, but I am especially honored to have worked with an institution where innovation and new ideas are accepted," Lowary said. "I also have been fortunate to work with an outstandingly talented staff that is committed to excellence."
