Celebration show choir on the road to Disney World
Northwest's Celebration Show Choir is going on the road Thursday, March 19, through Friday, March 27, for a series of shows in Missouri and Florida, including a performance at Walt Disney World in Orlando.
Each spring trimester, the group, which doubles as the Madraliers chamber ensemble during the fall, performs a variety of choreographed numbers, vocal jazz selections, Broadway tunes and ballads.
Following their upcoming tour, Celebration will appear in Maryville at 8 p.m. Friday, April 24, in the Ron Houston Center for the Performing Arts on the Northwest campus. T his year's Celebration cast includes 32 singer/dancers plus a live, eight-piece band.
Missouri stops on the March tour include:
- Blue Springs South High School, 9:10 a.m., Thursday, March 19.
Missouri State Capitol, Jefferson City, 12:30 p.m., Thursday, March 19
Troy Buchanan High School, Troy, Mo., 7 p.m., Thursday, March 19
Florida Celebration concerts include:
Park Lake Presbyterian Church, Orlando, 10:30 a.m. worship and 11:45 a.m. show choir performance, Sunday, March 22.
D owntown Disney Waterside Stage, Walt Disney World, 9:15 p.m., Tuesday, March 24.
Celebration's director, Dr. Brian Lanier, assistant professor of music, said the tour shows will include a number of selections that will also be performed on campus in April, including "Magic to Do" (from the musical "Pippin"), "Buenos Aires" (from "Evita"), "Brand New Day" (from "The Wiz"), "Into the Fire" (from "The Scarlet Pimpernel"), the swing classic "Jump, Jive and Wail," "No Doubt About It" and a melody of tunes by the rock group Van Halen.
