K.C. Center exhibit to feature paintings by Debra Payne

The Northwest Kansas City Center in Liberty will host an exhibition of paintings by Liberty artist Debra Payne from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, March 19.

Located in Blue Jay Tower Plaza at 8 Victory Lane in Liberty, the four-story office tower adjoins the Liberty High School Campus. The handicap-accessible center occupies the top two floors.

A noted Kansas City-area artist and educator, Payne teaches art at LHS and holds a master’s degree in art education from the University of Kansas.

The Northwest Kansas City Center show will include images structured around a variety of themes, such as patriotism, roles assumed by the artist, and objects Payne touches or discards on a daily basis. Arrangement, lighting and painterly description are subsequently transformed into “artistic amusement.”

This is the third art event hosted by the center since late last year. A juried exhibition featuring artists from across the Kansas City area took place last November and December. An earlier one-artist show spotlighted the work of noted Missouri watercolorist Ricky Holtman. All three exhibits have been organized in conjunction with the Liberty Arts Commission.

Groups and organizations from across the Kansas City metropolitan area frequently use the Northwest Kansas City Center as a site for events and workshops. The facility is usually offered at no charge, though there are nominal fees for staffing outside of regular hours, teleconferencing and catering assistance.

Organizations that have recently taken advantage of center resources include the Missouri Fire and Rescue Training Institute, the Liberty Area Chamber of Commerce, Liberty and North Kansas City public schools, Liberty Arts Commission, the Send Out Cards greeting card company, the Pearson Company and M&I Bank.
