A meeting of the Northwest Missouri State University presidential search committee and representatives from Jon McRae & Associates, an executive recruiting firm, was held last Friday (Jan. 16) in J.W. Jones Student Union Boardroom.
The Board of Regents has retained the Atlanta-based firm to assist the 13-member committee in recruiting a replacement for Dr. Dean L. Hubbard who will retire Aug. 1 after 25 years at the University's helm.
McRae President Emily Myers presented information about the firm and the process. Ken Daugherty, McRae senior vice president, conducted the remainder of the meeting in closed session. Board of Regents President James W. "Bill" Loch, who chairs the search committee, said names of potential candidates were introduced as well as the procedures that committee members will follow during the review process.
Loch said he was pleased with the meeting. "The first meeting was successful. I was pleased with the presentation," Loch said. "All members contributed during the process. It is very apparent that all in attendance represented their groups well. We have great diversification among the members. This makes a strong base for a focused committee."
Daugherty said an advertisement for the position of Northwest president will soon be placed in "The Chronicle of Higher Education" and regional newspapers. Additionally, McRae & Associates is recruiting possible candidates through its network, and a brochure is being produced to circulate to them.
The committee will be asked to select between eight and 10 candidates for off-site interviews, Daugherty said. From that pool, two or three finalists will be invited to visit the campus.
Loch said the regents hope to announce the name of the new president sometime in April.
