Placing ACS Publications Stable URLs
in eCollege/eCompanion
(links students with preselected ACS Publication articles)


  • Open ACS Publications in one browser window
  • Within ACS Publications search for an article that you want to link to in eCollege/eCompanion
  • Open a second browser window (Ctrl+N) and access the desired eCollege/eCompanion course
  • Click on the Author Tab [Author Tab]
  • In the left-hand author menu, click on the unit where the doi (Stable URL) will be placed
  • Click on Add Content Item in the right-hand column
  • In the "Add New Content Item" area, type Articles in the "Name:" box and select Text in the "Type:" box
  • Click the Create button
  • A message box appears: "The Content Item has been created." Click OK in the message box
  • In the "Add Existing Content Item(s) to Unit" area, select Articles in the "Select Item(s):" box and click the Add to Unit button
  • A message box appears: "The Content Item(s) has been added." Click OK in the message box
  • In the left-hand author menu, select Articles
  • In the "Content:" document window, type the following directions for student access and hit return:
  • If viewing the article(s) from On-Campus, click on the following article link(s).

    Before viewing the article(s) from Off-Campus, go to the library homepage (http://www.nwmissouri.edu/library/). Click Search for Articles. Follow the off-campus connection directions in the Help area (http://www.nwmissouri.edu/library/offcampus.htm). NOTE: If you have previously followed these directions, click on this address to connect: http://198.209.246.36. Once the directions have been followed and the Search for Articles page is displayed, locate the NWMSU Owens Library logo in the upper-left corner of the screen and click on the section of the logo that says Northwest Missouri State University to return to "Northwest's site". Once you are at Northwest's homepage, return to your eCompanion/eCollege course site and click on the article link(s).

    Call the Library Services Desk (562-1193) for additional assistance locating this article.

  • Select the link button [Link] in the document window toolbar
  • In the "Select Type of Link:" box, select Link to a Website and click the Go button
  • Copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the title of the article from the ACS Publication into the "Link Text:" box
  • Delete "http://" from the "Website Address:" box
  • Within the citation, click on the doi (Stable URL)

  • Copy (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) the doi/Stable URL (highlighted in example below) from the IE Address bar into the "Website Address:" box

  • Click the Add Link button
  • Example Results:

  • Continue to add more articles by selecting the link button [Link] in the document window toolbar and repeating the steps listed above
  • Click the Save Changes button
  • A message box appears: "Content Item was updated successfully." Click OK in the message box
  • Click on the Course tab in the left-hand menu to view and test the results
