Why Use Search Engines?
Search Engines:
- Search for unique keywords and phrases
- Searchfor combinations of unique keywords and phrases

Employ field searching and limiting (date,
language, file type, location, etc.)

Search for pages buried deep in a Web site

Search engines will not find:
- Content of Adobe PDF and formatted files (except at AlltheWeb and
Google which now index PDF and other file types)
- Content in sites requiring a login (most periodical databases like
Gale or EBSCOhost; reference sources like Britannica.com or Countrywatch.com)
- Information in commercial resources with domain limitations
- Non-Web resources (printed books, printed government documents, print
archives and rare manuscripts, and print/microform periodicals)
