Searching for Books
  1. Access the Library Catalog via the Owens Library home page
  2. Click Subject (Library of Congress)
  3. Type the one fo the following subjects in the "LC Subject Search" box
    Elections United States
    Presidents United States Election
    Polictical Campaigns United States

    United States Federal Election Commission
    Campaign Funds
  4. Click the [Search] button
  5. When the list of subjects appears, click on subjects appropriate for your area of research
  6. If a subject search does not produce enough relevant sources, click the drop down arrow and choose keyword as shown below:

  7. Enter a search (e.g. election and presidential)
  8. You may expand your search to include fifty academic libraries in the state of Missouri at any time by clicking the [Search MOBIUS] button
    Users may borrow books from any MOBIUS library by requesting them via the MOBIUS catalog

    Click in the [CQ.com search]
    entry box and type a search phrase

    NOTES:

    [bullet]This index allows users to search for information that is related to national elections and laws
    [bullet]Use more specific terms to get better results (e.g. 527 political organizations rather than campaign finance reform)

  2. Click in the [Quick Search] entry box and type a search phrase (e.g. campaign finance, electoral college, etc.)

  1. Access Expanded Academic via the Owens Library Search for Articles page
  2. Click in the "Keyword search" box and type your search (e.g.. clinton and senator and election)
  3. Click the [Search] button

Search LexisNexis Academic News for news articles about elections
  1. Access LexisNexis Academic News via the Owens Library Search for Articles page
  2. Click on the [Guided News Search] tab
  3. Click the drop down arrow under "Step One: Select a news category"
  4. Click "U.S. News" (or another appropriate category)
  5. Click the drop down arrow under "Step Two: Select a news source" and choose a source
  6. Type your search terms in the entry boxes under "Step Three: Enter search terms" using the drop down arrows to choose your operators (e.g, and, or, and not, etc.) and select the areas of the records you wish to search (e.g., headline, full text, caption, etc.)
  7. Click the drop down arrow or the radio button of your choice under "Step Four: Narrow to a specific date range"
  8. Click the [Search] button

  2. Click EBSCOhost Web
  3. Click in the check boxes next to Academic Search Premier and MasterFILE
  4. Click in the "Find" box and type your search (e.g., talent and election and missouri and 2002)
  5. Click the [Search]  button

Search NewsBank for newspaper articles about elections
  1. NewsBank
  2. Scroll down and select the sources appropriate for your topic by clicking in the check box next to the source
  3. Click in the "SEARCH FOR:" box and type your search (e.g., dole and election)
  4. Use the drop down arrows to set your preferences in the entry boxes after the word "Return:"
  5. Click the [Search] button
