the Library Catalog
Search
the Library catalog to locate books, periodicals titles, government documents,
videocassettes, music CDs and other materials available in the Owens and Horace
Mann Library.
Use a subject
search if you want to find biographies or critical reviews on an author's
work(s). For personal names, enter the last name of the author first. Ignore
capital letters or punctuation. Example: crutcher,
chris
Use the author option to search for the names of authors and illustrators. If trying to locate
work's BY a specific author, perform an author search with the last name
first. Example:blume
judy

Other Library Catalogs
The MOBIUS Catalog (holdings of 50 academic institutions
in Missouri) can be searched as one catalog by clicking on MOBIUS.
Any materials not available
at Northwest can be requested through Interlibrary
Loan.
Search
the Literary Index
Search the Literary Index by title or author to locate books published by the Gale Group, a
highly respected publisher of literary reference materials. To locate which
Gale Group publications Owens Library subscribes to, view the Contemporary
Authors Guide. Especially record entries in:
Find
Periodical Articles
Use periodical indexes
to locate article citations and summaries on children's literature authors
and topics.
- A concise list of
and description of indexes appropriate for children's literature is available
on the Recommended
Curriculum & Instruction/Educational Leadership Databases
- If searching by topic, be sure to use synonyms
for keywords. Concepts for children's literature topics may be referred
to by variant terms. Different indexes may use different terms to describe
the same concept. For example, when subject
guide searching for author information in Gale Academic OneFile,
variant terms are:
- If searching by author, locate biographies by selecting:
- Academic OneFile
- Secting Subject Guide Search (found in blue navigation bar)
- Type author's last name, first name
- Select Subdivisions
- Academic Search Premier
- Type DE "author's last name, first name" (example: DE "Blume, Judy")
