Society for Microbiology
"The Society's 11 journals cover the spectrum of microbiology, from molecular
and cellular biology to biomedical research and technology." The Society's
journals include the Journal of Bacteriology, the Journal of Clinical Microbiology,
and the Journal of Virology.
Basic Liquid Chromatography
This site provides an overview of high performance liquid chromatography,

BIODIDAC
The BIODIDAC Project provides diagrams and descriptive information on Eubacteria,
Protista, Fungi, Plantae, Animalia, Human Biology, and Histology. The site
also offers a searchable database. This site is coordinated by Antoine Morin,
Professor of Biology, University of Ottawa.
BioInteractive
The Howard Hughes Medical Institute provides biology-focused virtual
laboratories, virtual museum exhibits, video lectures, and animations. BioInteractive
is designed to be used via a Web browser and common browser plug-ins that
are available for free.
Biological Resources Division
The Biological Resource Division Web site aims to "provide the scientific
understanding and technologies needed to support the sound management and
conservation of our Nation's biological resources." The site offers links
to national programs, current projects, publications, science by state and
BRD expertise. The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS)
maintains this site. It also lists of a wide range of biology related Internet
resources and contains an index of Biological
Resources with a searchable database.
The Biology Project
This site, maintained by the Biology
Project Team, is "an interactive online resource for learning biology"
that is useful for students at any level, physicians, science writers, and
anyone who is interested in biology. The Biology Project off-life
applications of biology and the inclusion of up-to-date research findings,
as well as career optioers "realns in biology." Disciplines covered include Biochemistry,
Cell Biology, Chemicals & Human Health, Developmental Biology, Human Biology,
Immunology, Mendelian Genetics, and Molecular Biology.
BioTech
Biotech's goal is to provide knowledge of biology and chemistry. This site
provides a dictionary, a search, an introduction to glycolysis, a chemical
acronyms database, science resources, and professional resources.
BirdSource:
Birding with a Purpose
BirdSource is "designed and managed by the National Audubon Society and
the Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology. BirdSource is an interactive website
where the enthusiasm of birders is combined with state-of-the-art technology
to promote conservation and environmental learning." This site features
information about the Great Backyard Bird Count, the Christmas Bird Count,
Project Feederwatch, and other projects. BirdSource also allows reporting
and tracking birds online through a feature entitled eBird.

301: Taxonomy of Flowering Plants
This site is home
to the Botany 301: Taxonomy of Flowering Plants course at Texas A &M University.
In addition to information about this specific course, this site provides
information about and images of a variety of flowering plants, as well as
several related links.

The Biology Resource Center has a database of a variety of biology
and related textbooks and lab manuals. It also includes other features such
as recent biology related articles, career information, news groups, free
live tutoring, and other biology related links.
BUBL LINK/570 Life Sciences
This resource site contains an extensive catalog of biology related links
that are frequently updated. Resources are listed by resource type, alphabetically,
by Dewey number, or by country. A subject menu and searchable database also
make resources easier to locate. This site is maintained by the Joint Information
Systems Committee (JISC).
Cell and Molecular Biology Online
This site, maintained by Pamela Gannon, Ph.D. in the Department of Cellular
and Molecular Physiology from Tufts University Sackler School of Biomedical
Sciences, provides links to recommended biology sites on the Internet, as
well as links to online publications, information on current research, general
biology resources, images and videos, career resources, professional societies,
and grant information.
Classification
of Living Things
The Classification of Living Things site gives "an introduction
to the principles of taxonomy with a focus on human classification categories."
It provides related internet sites, a glossary of terms, a table of kingdoms,
a table of human classification, and flash cards on the topics covered in
the site.
Dennis Kunkel Microscopy, Inc.
This site provides basic background information on microscopy, plus an image
gallery with light and electron micrographs and scanning electron micrographs.
It also offers links to other Web sites featuring microscopy. This Web site
is maintained by Dennis Kunkel, Ph.D., photomicrographer at the Pacific Biomedical

Museum of Natural History, Smithsonian Institution
This site contains a great deal of botanical information. It includes
collections at the US National Herbarium encompassing all major groups of
plants (bryophytes, ferns, gymnosperms and angiosperms) as well as algae (esp.
marine algae and diatoms) and lichens, additional research, publications,
references and tools, events, and images.
Environmental
Contaminants Encyclopedia
The National Park Service provides a list of environmental contaminants and
a detailed description of each contaminant.
ExPASy Molecular Biology Server
This site is the ExPASy (Expert Protein Analysis System)
server of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB). It provides links to databases, tools and software packages, education
and services, documentation, lists of molecular biology resources, and lists
of some major molecular biology servers. The site also offers the latest announcements,
new features, site map, and searchable database. Several ExPASy
teams participate in maintaining this site.

of North America
This site contains "information on the names, taxonomic relationships,
continent-wide distributions, and morphological characteristics of all plants
native and naturalized found in North America north of Mexico." This
site also includes a newsletter and instructions on how to cite theWeb page.

State Entomology Index of Internet Resources
This site provides

The site also allows users to add resources to the database.
Kimball's
Biology Pages
This site represents "an online biology textbook" consisting of
alphabetized lists of biological terms (the index/glossary) for a wide variety
of biological topics. A table of contents is provided to make navigation easier.
This site is maintained by John W. Kimball, who is a retired professor of
Tufts University and Harvard.

Biomes of the World
Major Biomes of the World provides information about all eight of the major
biomes, a module overview, an introduction to what a biome is, and an online
glossary of terms. This site is complied by Susan L. Woodward as part of The

This site allows the user to search the database
by the scientific name of a plant. It also helps the visiter to search the images of plants depending on their family and name. This site also gives access to the Missouri Botanical Garden's database.
MedBio World: General Science
or Biology Journals
This site is a source for medical & bioscience journals, associations, & databases
and has around 25,000 links. The site also has a searchable database.
NASA's Global Change Master Directory
The directory "enable users to locate and obtain access to Earth science data sets and services relevant to global change and Earth science research. The GCMD database holds more than 20,000 descriptions of Earth science data sets and services covering all aspects of Earth and environmental sciences. One can use the search box or select from the available keywords to search for data and services." The staff of NASA's GCMD maintains this site.
The National Arboretum
This site
provides information about the United States National Arboretum in Washington,
D.C., such as where it is located, hours & admission, events, exhibits,
and the internship programs. The site also includes some photo galleries,
general information about certain plants, and lists the plants found at the
arboretum.

This site provides information about genomic research, health issues such
as genetic disorders, legal and ethical issues regarding genetics, educational
resources, careers and training, and grants. The site also has a search feature,

Data Warehouse
The USGS National Water Quality Assessment Data Warehouse provides information
about ground and surface water quality throughout the United States. The site
has a search feature and a US map that makes it easy to find water quality
information for specific regions.
