Peer-Reviewed (Refereed) Periodicals

  • Peer-reviewed (refereed) periodicals are published following a formal editorial process involving subject experts. The information therefore has a high level of quality, credibility, and reliability.
  • For directions on how to limit to scholarly, peer-reviewed journals in anyEBSCOhost, Gale, or WilsonWeb databases, choose one of the following options. for other databases, use the Ulrich's Periodicals Directory method.

EBSCOhost Directions
  • Connect to EBSCOhost
  • Click EBSCOhost Web
  • When connected, select a database and click Continue
  • Enter the search request in the Find: search box
  • Click the Scholarly (Peer Reviewed) Journals box located under Limit your results:
  • Click Search

Gale Directions
Use the Gale Method when searching in the Expanded Academic databases:
  • Connect to Gale
  • Select a database
  • Enter search request
  • Limit search to refereed or peer-reviewed journals
  • Click Search

Ulrich's Directions
Use the Ulrich's Periodicals Directory when wanting to know if a particular journal title is peer-reviewed:
  • Connect to Ulrich's Periodical Directory
  • Choose Title (Exact)
  • Click in the search box
  • Type in the title of the journal
  • Click Submit
  • Locate the title in the result list. If it is a peer-reviewed periodical, an shirt icon will appear near the title.

Use the WilsonWeb Method when searching the Biological and Agricultural Index Plus, Readers' Guide Retro, or the Education Full Text databases:
  • Connect to WilsonWeb
  • Click the box in front of desired database
  • Enter search terms
  • Click Peer Reviewed box
  • Click Start
