Associations

[ square ] American Mathematical Society
The Society has a combined membership list of approximately 53,000 members and provides advocacy, newsletters, electronic journals, conferences, job ads, and other professional opportunities. The E-Math homepage is sponsored by the American Mathematical Society. This site provides information about journals, books, meeting and conferences, membership, and other mathematical related links. This site also provides information about American Mathematical Society Notices, MathSciNet, an American Mathematical Society bookstore, and a What's New Link.

The Association for Women in Mathematics is a "nonprofit organization dedicated to encouraging women and girls in the mathematical sciences." This association has more than 4,100 members and provides newsletters, programs, workshops, grants, and other information.

The Society hosts conferences, publishes a quarterly newsletter, organizes a European Congress every four years, sponsors annual distinguished mathematician lectures, and organizes summer schools in pure and applied mathematics for predoctoral students.

MathWorld, created by the author of CRC Concise Encyclopedia of Mathematics, is a "comprehensive and interactive mathematics encyclopedia intended for students, educators, math enthusiasts, and researchers."

"The Mathematical Association of America (MAA) is the world's largest organization devoted to the interests of collegiate mathematics. This site offers an elaborate search engine.

Use the Multi-Repository Mathematics Collections site to search over 5000 documents in "three of the most significant mathematics collections digitally available: The Mathematics Collection from Cornell, the Mathematics Collection from Göttingen, and the University of Michigan's Historical Math Collection." The majority of the texts were published in the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Biographies are categorized by alphabetical order and chronological order.

This PBS/NOVA Web site about the concept of infinity explores the life of Archimedes and the recently discovered manuscript which shows he came quite close to discovering calculus. The site includes a number of interviews, short articles and interactive features, including an "Approximating Pi" demonstration that illustrates how Archimedes calculated pi around the year 250 BCE.

"The mission of the Directory of Preprint and e-Print Servers is to make available to the mathematical community the current homepage URLs and email contacts of all mathematical preprint and e-print servers throughout the world." The Directory of Mathematics Preprint and e-Print Servers is provided by the AMS (American Mathematical Society). "This directory will provide mathematicians with a tool to find any of these servers in order to browse the articles posted on them and, in many cases, to post an article to the server itself." This site is broken down into the four main categories of: Umbrella Servers, Special Subject Servers, Institute and Department Servers, and Retired Preprint Services.
