Lasana Omar Hotep is a researcher, consultant and entrepreneur with a commitment to inciting critical thought about society, culture and politics. He delivers presentations that are informational, inspirational and at their best, transformational.
He received his Bachelors of Arts Degree with a double major in Speech Communications and History from Texas State University in May 1997. During his four-year tenure at Texas State University, he served as president of three campus organizations. His areas of expertise include Hip-hop history, leadership and African-American culture.
Currently, Lasana is the founder, principal owner Hotep Consultants. Lasana, along with Alonzo Jones, co-authored a chapter in the book African-American Men in College highlighting the African American Men of Arizona State University (AAMASU) Program. He currently serves as a Student Success Coordinator in the Multicultural Student Center at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona.
Lasana Omar Hotep is an educator, consultant and writer committed to inciting critical thought about society, culture and politics. He has spent over 18 years of his life working toward the cause of creating harmonious human relationships. He has experienced both triumph and tragedy in pursuit of his vocation which he describes as “a beautiful struggle.”
Lasana is a native of Los Angeles, California, came of age in San Antonio, Texas and currently resides in Phoenix, Arizona. He has served as a collegiate student leader at Texas State University, a grassroots community organizer and a member of several community advisory boards. Professionally, Lasana has served as an associate producer in television news, vice-president of a wireless phone franchise, an elementary school teacher and a program coordinator at the university level.
As an independent researcher he has developed workshops and written essays on his diverse research interests which include history, anthropology, media, spirituality, education, Pan-Africanism and Hiphop. Lasana’s presentations are fact-based multimedia experiences presented with candor, humor and passion.
He has contributed chapters to several publications including African-American Men in College (Jossey-Bass 2006), The State of Black Arizona (2008), Be A Father to Your Child: Real Talk from Black Men of the Hip Hop Generation (Soft Skull 2008) and The Black Male Health Handbook: A Blueprint for Life (Atria 2008)
Lasana’s most notable accomplishments are in the area of empowering men of African descent. He developed the of the African American Men of Arizona State University (AAMASU) Program. Founded by Alonzo Jones, AAMASU is both a college organization and a high school readiness program targeting Black males and their families. Lasana was a featured workshop presenter and panelist at Kevin Powell’s 2007 Black and Male in America Conference in Brooklyn, New York. At the national level, he serves as a member of the Student African American Brotherhood (SAAB) faculty.
Lasana is the founder, principal owner and Lead Consultant of Hotep Consultants. He also serves as a Student Success Coordinator in the Multicultural Student Center at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. Lasana is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. He is married to Dr. Renée Hotep and enjoys reading, traveling and playing pick-up basketball.
