Ame Lambert Dear Bearcats, Greetings from the office of Minority Affairs at Northwest Missouri State University. It is a good thing to be at Northwest, a place with a lot to offer. The University provides lots of great majors to consider. You get an excellent education at a great value. In addition there are a variety of scholarships from the Presidential and Distinguished scholar to the cultural diversity scholarship and American dream grant to make the education even more affordable! Northwest provides a great opportunity for intercultural, leadership and citizenship development through the excellent programs provided by the various departments in the Division of Student Affairs, of which the Intercultural and International Center is a part. The office of minority affairs, located in the Intercultural and International center is a home away from home for our African American, Asian American, American Indian and Latino/a students. We are here to support our students and do whatever we can to help them succeed. We provide supplemental advising, a connection to campus resources, encouragement and counseling. We also provide a variety of cultural celebration and intercultural development program. Our organizations provide a place to connect, to grow, to learn and to thrive. Our mentoring program ensures that you will not have to face the adjustment challenges of college alone. Incoming students are paired with upper classmen who have walked the road the new students are now walking and helps the students navigate their freshmen year. In addition, the mentoring program provides opportunities for personal, leadership and career development. We want to develop well rounded students. So we focus on cultural identity development, service to others and the community, personal and financial responsibility and tips to get the job and excel on the job. We never forget our bearcat parents!! From special sessions at orientation, to events during parents’ weekend and homecoming and other events, we keep parents connected to the university and their children. We truly see educating tomorrow’s leaders as a partnership between the University and the families. We take our responsibilities seriously and someone is always available to assist you with whatever you need. We encourage to embrace and enjoy your time here and seize the opportunity to step out of your comfort zone, expand your horizons, challenge your assumptions, develop critical thinking skills, meet new life long friends, and find out who you are and who you want to be If you have any questions or need some more information, please contact the office of minority affairs at 660 562 1517 or lambert@nwmissouri.edu We look forward to meeting you on campus.
