Job Description

To provide academic assistance to students enrolled in language courses as well as assist faculty with course material preparation; in individual or group sessions with clients, the tutor follows acceptable and clearly established procedures to actively involve the learner in the content of the course and suggest appropriate study strategies for the client's use; the tutor is expected to keeps accurate records of client service and treat clients ethically; assists language faculty members with course material preparation.


  • Utilize effective oral communications with student clients, presenting conceptes, and re-directing questions
  • Keep accurate records of client service
  • Communicate problems and concerns directly to language faculty supervisor(s)

Critical/Creative Thinking and Problem Solving:

  • Answer students' questions
  • Suggest alternative ways to look at the problem/situation
  • Make referrals when needed


  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Knowledge of course related computer exercises

Self-Directed Learning:

  • Seek support and guidance
  • Have ability to recognize, initiate and complete various tasks
  • Help studdents understand content-area concepts
  • Develop strategies to support a variety of student learners
  • Employ creativity and flexibility in all aspects of role

Competence in a Discipline:

  • Ability to ready, speak and write in the target language

Personal/Social Develoment:

  • Support and encourage students
  • Pay attention to detail
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • Exhibit positive customer relations skills
  • Promote student involvement with course content

Ability to read, speak and write in the target language; demonstrate empowering and interpersonal skills; communicate well for a variety of levels of interest and ability; experienced with Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to utilize computerized aspects of language course

Wage Rate

$7.75 per hour
