Job Description

To aid in translating special verbal insturctions, print and electoronic media to ensure Mandarin speakers understand international office, curricular and University policies; Help with translation and to act as an advisor to Chinese students by editing brochures, documents, web pages and other taks as needed.

Communications:

• Ability to read and write in Mandarin (simplified preferably) and translate into English
• Ability to verbally translate necessary information form English to Mandarin

Critical/Creative Thinking and Problem Solving:

• Cultural translation of processes and policies
• Ability to help limited English speakers with daily problems through communication

Computer:

• Knowledge of computer exercises related to student's classes
• Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
• Use the Internet and web-based e-mail

Self-Directed Learning:

• Ability to seek advice from appropriate channels

Competence in a Discipline:

• Necessary language skills in Mandarin

Personal/Social Development:

• Mature and responsible
• Desire to learn about other cultures and people

Qualifications

Knowledge of target language (Japanese) with the ability to translate it to the English language.
