Job Description

Assist instructors in classroom. As a member of the teaching team, the Teaching Assistant are accountable to the other team members and to the Program Assistant Director and Counseling Coordinator.

  • Attend UBMS classes
  • Supervise students in classrooms, labs and during class breaks
  • Serve as a role model for high school participants in the college classroom and lab
  • Participate in class field trips
  • Consult/coordinate with instructors to provide assistance as needed, especially in group research projects and academic tutoring
  • Monitor student progress, attendance, and behavior and enforce program rules
  • Communicate with Central Staff and RTs if/when issues arise

 

Qualifications

  • Must have completed Bachelor's degree or significant progress (60+ credit hours) toward completion of Bachelor's degree by June 1, 2015
  • Cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 is required
  • Enrollment in Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Math Education, Science Education, or Computer Science is required. (Successful structured teaching and/or tutoring experience may be substituted)
  • Strong mathematics/science and lab skills required
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English language both orally and in print
  • Clear understanding and support of program's goals is required
  • Knowledge of effective teaching/learning processes
  • Experience working with high school students and open to diverse background of students
  • Personal experience in overcoming academic and economic obstacles to success is preferred

Wage Rate

For 2015 the rate will be $10.00 per hour

Hours Available

up to 20 hours per week for six weeks

Start Date

Mon. June 8th- thurs. July 16, 2015; Monay-Friday
