Job Description

To aid in the publication of Northwest’s Student Publications: the Northwest Missourian newspaper

Duties and Responsibilities:

Actively participate in creating student publications by writing, designing, photographing, overseeing and assisting in staff member contributions. Will also serve as a team leader (section editor) providing deadlines, attending work weekends and/or work nights. Drive a University vehicle on or off campus.

Communications:

  • Utilize effective oral and written communication when delegating or answering questions

Critical/Creative Thinking and Problem Solving:

  • Enforce deadlines, handle editorial problems, and help choose award entries, use good news judgment

Computer:

  • Macs
  • Microsoft Word
  • InDesign
  • Photoshop

Self-Directed Learning:

  • Have ability to recognize, initiate and complete various tasks

Competence in a Discipline:

  • Supervise publications staff, approve staff contributions, and assist with determination of deadlines, assist with hiring and termination of editorial staff

Personal/Social Development:

  • Exhibit professionalism and courtesy
  • Exhibit positive customer relations' skills and pay attention to detail

Team Work/Team Leading:

  • Work with advisory board, actively participate in editorial board meetings and assign various tasks

Multicultural:

  • Have ability to work with diverse on and off campus populations

Qualifications

Successful completion of Professional Media Writing, Reporting and Media Design; Completion or current enrollment in Editing Advanced Reporting and Advanced Media Design; Excellent communication, organizational and people skills; and at least one trimester staff experience; Exceptions can be made and are at the discretion of the Editor in Chief of the publication; Must have a current, valid driver's license and a safe driving record.

Wage Rate

$7.60

Hours Available

Between 4 to 6 hours/week
