Job Description

To assist Faculty/Staff, NWMSU students and Horace Mann students with their library needs. Open/close library, assist patrons in finding books, checkout/check-in/shelving of books, other duties as assigned.


  • The ability to communicate face-to-face, electronically, and on paper.  Must be able to communicate with patrons and colleagues in a professional manner.

Critical/Creative Thinking and Problem Solving:

  • Receive general instructions and complete projects independently


  • Candidates should have a working knowledge of search engines, and must be able to learn and navigate software specific to the library environment.

Self-Directed Learning:

  • Ability to recognize, initiate and complete various tasks

Competence in a Discipline:

  • Candidates should have a rudimentary understanding of library designations and the Dewey Decimal System.

Personal/Social Development:

  • Pay attention to detail
  • Exhibit professionalism and courtesy
  • Exhibit positive customer relations skills

Team Work/Team Leading:

  • Demonstrate ability to work positively with others


Minimum knowledge of how a library functions, ability to be a self-starter, ability to work with colleagues and patrons in a professional manner
