Job Description

To provide office assistance to the academic department; Assist department secretary and/or faculty, answer phones, take messages, assist callers with questions, make photocopies, type correspondence and reports, run errands, distribute items, send faxes, file, schedule appointments, and proctor exams; Occassional unsupervised control of office space; May drive University vehicle; Other duties as assigned.

Communications:

  • Follow verbal & written instructions
  • Demonstrate effective written and oral communications

Critical/Creative Thinking and Problem Solving:

  • Resolve needs of faculty/staff/students/guests using knowledge of campus resources
  • Develop detailed documents from general instructions
  • Manage data

Computer:

  • Good typing, proofreading and editing skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Publisher, Excel, PowerPoint, Internet and eCompanion

Self-Directed Learning:

  • Ability to recognize, initiate and complete various tasks
  • Receive general instructions and complete projects independently

Competence in a Discipline:

  • Quickly develop, if hired, a general knowledge of the department disciplines to assist faculty/staff/students/guests

Personal/Social Development:

  • Exhibit dependability, professionalism and courtesy
  • Attention to detail with accuracy
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Exhibit positive customer relations skills

Team Work/Team Leading:

  • Demonstrate ability to work positively with others

Qualifications

Major or minor in Geography preferred
Maintain confidentiality
Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication
Exhibit professionalism & good customer service skills Microsoft Word and Excel software skills
Good typing skills and knowledge of office of equipment (printers/copiers)
Familiarity with the Internet
Lifting required up to fifty pounds
Preferred, but not required, to have a current, valid driver's license; If in possession of a current/valid driver's license, must have a safe driving record and meet all University requirements to drive a University vehicle.                     

Wage Rate

$7.35

Hours Available

Up to 3 Hours; More than one position may be available.
