Job Description

To provide supervision and security for art exhibits; Attend gallery openings/receptions and slide lectures; Provide general information about the art exhibit and guest artist to gallery visitors; Assist with clerical duties of department as needed; Other duties as assigned

Communications:

  • Utilize effective oral communications when answering questions

Critical/Creative Thinking and Problem Solving:

  • Ability to identify, evaluate and record/solve discrepancies in slide collection information in order to ensure consistent and accurate data entry

Computer:

  • Use of basic computer software

Self-Directed Learning:

  • Work unsupervised

Competence in a Discipline:

  • Fundamentals of art or humanities

Personal/Social Development:

  • Exhibit professionalism and courtesy
  • Exhibit positive customer relations skills

Team Work/Team Leading:

  • Work cooperatively with other gallery attendants to provide assistance to gallery guests during the weekly gallery schedule

  • Have ability to work with diverse on and off campus populations

Cultural Enrichment:

  • Obtain general knowledge of art and artists.

Qualifications

Art majors or minors preferred; Gallery work schedule is shared between three to four employees in order to cover the gallery open hours, which are: Mondays (6-9 pm), Tuesday through Saturday (1-5 pm) and Sunday (1:30-5 pm). Must attend scheduled guest artist lectures; Must show an interest in gallery exhibits and a pleasant attitude toward greeting gallery guests; Punctuality and dependability is critical; Able to work independently; Available hours may be adjusted as needed for changes in exhibit schedules.
