Dairy Assistant



Job Description

Purpose of Position: To provide assistance for the dairy enterprise

Duties and Responsibilities: Perform tasks as assigned by supervisor such as: prepare milking equipment and bulk tank for milking. Move cows between housing and milking facilities for milking and help other employees bring in cows if needed or requested. Handle and milk all cows in an orderly, proper, and consistent manner. Cows should not be frightened or excited either before or during milking. Milk cows using approved procedures, including pre- and post-milking, to obtain optimum yield, product quality, and cow health. Clean and sanitize milking and milk storage equipment in compliance with state and federal regulations. Clean lots and freestalls daily. Give supervisor sufficient notice to arrange for a substitute milker if unable to work scheduled hours. Must drive a University vehicle or equipment.  Availability to work during semester breaks and holidays as needed.  Timeliness for submitting Web Time Sheet required.

  • Apply livestock production fundamentals including the ability to recognize injuries, problems and/or disease

 Personal/Social Development:      

  • Attention to detail is critical as is the ability to proactively address repairs and maintenance

Team Work/Team Leading:          

  • Demonstrate ability to work positively with others
  • Have ability to work positively with diverse on campus populations


  • Basic Windows


  • Agriculture major
  • Minimum 2.0 GPA
  • Experience operating a tractor and loader and other farm equipment
  • Must have a current, valid driver’s license and a safe driving record
  • Must meet all University requirements to drive a University vehicle or equipment
  • Ability to perform manual tasks involving heavy lifting and mobility
  • Available to work hours 5:00-8:00 AM and 4:00-7:00 PM.
