Job Description

The student telecounselor is instrumental in the recruitment of future students for Northwest.The main responsibility of the student telecounselor is to communicate the benefits of attending  Northwest Missouri State University to prospective students by telephone. Also, the student telecounselor is responsible for answering questions and mailing information to inquiring prospective students or family members. On average the telecounselors make 25,000 calls a year.

Communications:

• Strong Communications skills are required for the student telecounselor position. Applicants must have the ability to handle a variety of questions and use problem solving skills to assist prospective students and their families.

Critical/Creative Thinking and Problem Solving:

• Must answer a wide variety of complex questions while on the phone.

Computer:

• Strong ability to navigate the Northwest website while searching for information. Also, experience with database management.

Self-Directed Learning:

• Must meet daily, weekly, and monthly goals

Personal/Social Development:

• Maintain confidentiality
• Exhibit professionalism and courtesy
• Pay attention to detail
• Exhibit positive customer relation skills

Team Work/Team Leading:

• Work in a team of five and coexist while making calls

• The ability to relate to a variety of individuals from different ethnic and social backgrounds

Cultural Enrichment: 

• Telecounselors experience the fulfillment of working with numerous individuals who come from different ethnic and social backgrounds. This enlightens individuals as to the different lenses and perspectives that prospective students and their families experience when researching colleges and universities.          

Qualifications

Experience with Northwest recruitment and website; Strong communication skills.

Wage Rate

$7.35

Hours Available

10 hours; Required to work nights(5-8 p.m.) and Sunday evenings (3-8 p.m.).
