Support Staff - Job Description

Position

Hardscape Groundskeeper, Environmental Services

Employment Status

Non-exempt, 12-month, full-time position

Position Summary

Responsible for assisting with maintenance of streets, sidewalks, parking lots and other campus hardscape features. Collects and hauls campus trash and recyclable materials to a designated site and maintains trash and recycling vehicles and containers.

Essential Functions

  1. Form, place and finish concrete sidewalks, streets and other flatwork
  2. Snow and ice removal
  3. Supervise summer sidewalk and street construction and repair crew
  4. Seal and repair asphalt streets
  5. Demolish streets, sidewalks, etc. with jackhammer; Load and haul rubble
  6. Perform repairs and equipment modifications as needed
  7. Use wire, stick welders
  8. Assist with campus signage placement and traffic marking with power painter
  9. Operate trash and recycling truck; collect and haul trash and recyclable materials to designated sites
  10. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma
Certification/License: Missouri Class B Commercial Driver’s license with air brake endorsement or ability to obtain within 60 days
Experience: Two years experience driving trucks, skid loaders and similar small construction equipment and power tools
Skills: Ability to work independently and as part of a team

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Concrete or asphalt construction training
Experience: Landscape maintenance experience; two years concrete construction experience; two years supervisory experience or similar related experiences
Skills: Ability to operate skid loader; ability to weld

Working Conditions

Regular hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. with a one-half hour lunch break. Hours vary on occasion to include weekend work. Subject to call for snow removal as needed. Work is mainly outdoors and exposed to very hot and cold conditions, also exposed to air conditioning.

Supervise seasonal and/or student employees

Equipment/Materials Used

Trash compacting truck, dump trucks, backhoe, skid loader and attachments, roller, tar pot, concrete finishing tools, utility vehicles, hand tools and shop equipment for maintenance

Typical Physical Demands

Requires sitting, standing, bending, reaching, lifting and manual dexterity sufficient to operate maintenance and cleaning machinery, climbing in and out of trucks many times each day, frequent pulling and lifting, occasional heavy lifting within reason
