Professional/Administrative Staff - Job Description

Position

Director of Residential Life, Residential Life

Employment Status

Exempt, full-time, twelve month position

Position Summary

The Director is responsible for the overall operation of the Residential Life Program. The director ensures the continuous quality improvement of all aspects of Residential Life and contributes to the successful development and implementation of strategic Student Affairs initiatives.

Essential Functions

  1. Develops and facilitates strategic and operational plans for the Residential Life Program
  2. Directs operations of Residential Life including: Personnel (i.e. recruitment/selection, training, supervision, evaluation); Budget forecast, review and maintenance; Process management (i.e. inventory, housing assignments, discipline); Departmental operations software system; Policy review, formation and implementation; Services (i.e. desk, mail)
  3. Provides innovative leadership, vision and direction to comprehensive student development and leadership programs for the department: Programs will be designed to support residents' educational goals, academic success and provide the framework for engagement
  4. Develops and directs departmental assessment plan
  5. Directs marketing, public relations and external communciations for the program
  6. Provides problem resolution for parents, students and stakeholders with respect to department issues
  7. Negotiates and manages some contracts and supplier relationships
  8. Generates program reports and research as required
  9. Serves on crisis response team
  10. Serves on various University committees
  11. Performs other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in related field
Experience: Minimum of five years full-time professional experience in Residential Life including extensive mid-level leadership and supervisory experience
Skills: Must have excellent communication and team leading skills; the ability to manage multiple projects; prior administrative experience including staff supervision, budget direction, strategic planning and program development and evaluation

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master's degree in College Student Personnel or Higher Education Administration
Experience: Eight years full-time professional experience in Residential Life including extensive mid-level leadership and supervisory experience
Skills: Research/Assessment skills

Working Conditions

This position works in an air-conditioned office in a newly renovated building

Supervisory Responsibilities

This position is minimally supervised and supervises, either directly or indirectly, all professional, support and paraprofessional staff in the department

Equipment/Materials Used

IBM compatible PC

Typical Physical Demands

Requires sitting and standing
