Position

Instructor/Assistant Professor of Housing & Home Interiors, Family & Consumer Sciences

Contract Terms

Nine-month, tenure track position

Position Summary

A nine-month, tenure track faculty position responsible for providing quality instruction in undergraduate level housing, home equipment, home interiors and merchandising courses

Essential Functions

  1. Teach 12-hour course load Fall and Spring Trimesters. Courses include Creating Aesthetic Environments, Housing, Home Equipment Technology and Merchandising of Furnishings and Accessories
  2. Advise students majoring in Merchandising of Textiles, Apparel and Furnishings
  3. Participate in faculty meetings and departmental and university committees
  4. Participate in research/professional development/scholarly activity
  5. Assist in advising student organizations
  6. Other tasks as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education: M.S. or ABD in areas to teach classes in furnishings, home interiors, home equipment and housing

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. in Housing and Furnishings related area; Preference will be given to candidates who have an emphasis in a second content area of Family and Consumer Sciences
Experience: Teaching experience and/or work experience in furnishings and interiors
Skills: CAD and/or computer design skills

Working Conditions

Collegial, team-based, modern academic environment with individual faculty office (Internet access); Classrooms provide electronic teaching stations; A 12 station computer laboratory is provided for specialized use in teaching classes

Equipment/Materials Used

Faculty are issued a personal notebook computer, document camera, LCD projector and video equipment are available for instruction. Faculty also have the opportunity to use eCompanion to assist instruction.

Typical Physical Demands

Ability to complete essential classroom functions. Must be able to project voice to teach classes of 20 - 40 students.

Department

The Family and Consumer Sciences Department has 7 full-time faculty and offers BS degrees in Child and Family Studies, Foods and Nutrition and Merchandising of Textiles, Apparel and Furnishings. A B.S.Ed. degree is available in Vocational Family and Consumer Sciences Education. The department serves approximately 180 undergraduate students in these majors, another 50 undergraduates in the minors available throught the department.
