Position

Assistant Professor of English with Specialty in Creative Writing: Fiction, English

Contract Terms

Nine-month, tenure track position

Position Summary

A nine-month faculty position responsible for teaching general education freshman composition and Introduction to Literature courses, as well as beginning, intermediate and advanced creative writing courses.

Essential Functions

  1. Full-time teaching at Northwest includes a 12-hour per trimester course load (fall and spring trimesters). This position allows for three hours per trimester of reassigned time to fulfill editorial responsibilities for The Laurel Review. Courses to be taught include Composition, Introduction to Literature and creative writing courses at both the undergraduate and graduate-level.
  2. Research/professional development/scholarly activity
  3. University service including committee work and student advising

Minimum Qualifications

Education: MFA or PhD in English or equivalent
Experience: Successful teaching experience at the college level; student support; departmental and university service; ongoing significant publications

Preferred Qualifications

Skills: Coursework and/or publications in creative nonfiction

Working Conditions

Collegial, team-based, modern academic environment with individual faculty offices (Internet access)

Equipment/Materials Used

Faculty are issued a personal laptop; classrooms are technology-enhanced (document stations, video equipment, Internet access)

Typical Physical Demands

Ability to complete essential classroom functions
