Position

Assistant Professor, Chemistry/Physics

Contract Terms

Nine-month, Tenure-track position

Position Summary

Teach primarily general chemistry lecture and labs, and a course in Quantitative or Instrument Analysis lecture and lab. May also develop and teach new course(s) related to our new Interdisciplinary Nanoscience degree.

Essential Functions

  1. Teach courses (12-hour teaching load per trimester) as described above
  2. Conduct research involving undergraduates
  3. Serve the department and university on committees as assigned
  4. Other duties as assigned by the department

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry or related field (must be completed by August 1, 2009)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: Work experience in nanoscience & microscopy and undergraduate teaching
Skills: Good classroom management and lecture skills and instrumentations

Working Conditions

Typical university classroom, laboratory and faculty office

Typical Physical Demands

Ability to complete essential functions in the classroom and laboratory

College

The College of Arts & Sciences is the largest on campus and houses nine departments and 120 full-time faculty members.

Department

The Chemistry and Physics Department, housed in the recently renovated Garrett-Strong Science Building, has 11 full-time faculty members and offers a number of BA/BS degrees in Chemistry, Physics and Unified Science and a MS degree in Science Education. The department will soon offer BS degrees in Nanoscale Science in the new state-of-the-art building, The Center for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE). The CIE will house state-of-the-art equipment such as XRD, XRF, TGA, FE-SEM/EDX, AFM, Conofocal microscope, particle size analyzer, obtained through State and Federal funds.
