Northwest provides health insurance to all benefit eligible employees and pay 100% of the premiums. Employees may elect to purchase coverage for one dependent or the entire family. If electing dependent coverage, the employee would be responsible for the additional premium cost through payroll deduction. Deductions can be made on a pre-tax basis using the Missouri Cafeteria Plan.
The University's health insurance is a fully-insured plan using a preferred provider organization with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Kansas City. Employees may use non-preferred providers; however, the deductibles and out-of-pocket expenses are higher. Included in the health plan, prescription drugs are covered with a three-tier payment schedule. Mail order prescriptions are available with Express Scripts.
More detailed information regarding the health insurance plan is distributed during the new employee orientation. Coverage will be effective on the first of the month following the hire date.
New employees have the initial enrollment period of 30-days to enroll in the health insurance plan. Open Enrollment is held during November and December with a January 1 effective date.
