Position

Front Desk Secretary, Missouri Academy of Science, Mathematics and Computing

Employment Status

Non-exempt, 10-month position, .42 FTE, 16 hours per week

Position Summary

The Front Desk Secretary is a part-time staff member (FTE=.42) responsible for the operations of the Missouri Academy Residential Life Office (RLO). The RLO is vital in providing service to the residents and guests. Some of the services provided at the desk include: recreation equipment, cooking equipment, vacuums, change, stamps, mail distribution, vending refunds and a resource for questions from residents and guests.

Essential Functions

  1. Utilize effective oral and written communications at all times
  2. Follow and deliver oral and written instructions
  3. Provide a constant venue for customer feedback; work with supervisor to respond to comments
  4. Manage all front desk operations
  5. Attend meetings as scheduled
  6. Coordinate processes and procedures to communicate staff duty and resource allocation (i.e. van use)
  7. Attend all departmental training sessions including but not limited to August training, January training and any other professional development as stipulated by the Director of Student Development or designee
  8. Assist with Departmental processes (i.e. room assignment, etc.)
  9. Transport students on off campus locations on occasion
  10. Maintain confidentiality concerning job-related issues and federally protected information
  11. Serve as a source of information about the operation of the University and its services
  12. Know and understand the referral procedure for assistance with problem situations
  13. Maintain designated posting area(s)
  14. Enforce all rules and regulations with consistency and fairness
  15. Confront individuals or groups violating University and Missouri Academy rules and regulations
  16. Report all discipline situations
  17. Lift and move 25 pounds on occasion in sedentary and physical work environments
  18. Complete all necessary reports as required in a timely manner
  19. Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High school diploma
Certification/License: Maintain a valid driver's license
Experience: Six months customer service experience
Skills: Effective oral and written communication; competence using various computer software including but not limited to Microsoft Office Suite and ability to learn Residential Management System; computer literacy; appropriate decision-making; integrative judgment and problem solving; creativity and flexibility
Other: Must be able to pass criminal and employment background check

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's degree
Skills: Intermediate computer literacy

Working Conditions

Standard office environment serving minors and staff, scheduled hours generally from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Monday - Thursday

Supervisory Responsibilities

Some supervision of student labor may be required

Business office environment; Ability to lift 25 pounds
