Position Summary |
This position is responsible for work in Acquisitions and other Technical Service areas. In Acquisitions, this position assists with the processes related to ordering and processing all formats of library materials for Owens Library and Horace Mann Library. |
|
Essential Functions |
- Process orders for new library materials and maintain accurate records using Innovative Millennium Acquisition module and OCLC Connexion. Tasks include but are not limited to searching OCLC Connexion, creating, downloading and editing order records and transmitting orders electronically
- Determine correct vendors selection per unit guidelines when ordering library materials
- Enter potential materials orders into vendor order database (currently Title Source III)
- Oversee receipt of library materials checking for defects/damage, missing items and accuracy of order. Update Millennium Acquisition module and route library materials for review by Collection Management Team Leader
- Communicate with vendors to correct ordering and receiving errors
- Ensure physical processing of library materials is completed in a timely manner
- Oversee notifying faculty of newly acquired library materials
- Assist with processing electronic resources as assigned
- Prepare books to be rebound for bindery
- Oversee the inventory of library collections
- Train and share supervision of student assistants assigned to Acquisitions
- Serve on the Technical Services team
- Perform occasional evening and weekend duties if required
- Perform other duties and assignments as required

Minimum Qualifications |
Education: High school diploma Experience: Technical training or experience in related fields Skills: Ability to communicate clearly, both orally and in writing; intermediate knowledge of computer programs including Word, Outlook and Excel; excellent keyboarding skills including 10 key; ability to prioritize and organize multiple tasks; ability to operate independently; problem solving ability; ability to follow directions and report on potential problems; attention to detail with good communication skills |

Preferred Qualifications |
Education: Bachelor's degree Experience: One year of library experience using an automated library system (preferably Innovative Interfaces); knowledge of Library of Congress Subject headings and MARC formats Skills: Experienced user of Innovative Millennium modules: Acquisitions and Cataloging |

Typical Physical Demands |
Occasional lifting or moving 25-35 pounds; ability to retrieve materials from low and high shelves; push book carts; unpack boxes and move books; sitting and keyboarding at computer for significant periods of time |
