Position

Assistant Professor, Chemistry/Physics

Contract Terms

Nine-month, tenure-track position

Position Summary

Teach general chemistry lecture and labs, and a course in Organic chemistry and lab. Also develop and teach new course(s) related to our new interdisciplinary Nanoscience degree.

Essential Functions

  1. Teach courses (twelve-hour teaching load per trimester) as described above
  2. Conduct research involving undergraduates
  3. Serve the department and university on committees as assigned
  4. Other duties as assigned by department chair

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. in Nano-organic Chemistry or related field (must be completed by August 15, 2010)

Preferred Qualifications

Experience: Teaching and research involving undergraduates; postdoctoral or industrial experience in the area of nanoscience and organic

Working Conditions

The new state-of-the-art science building, The Center of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (CIE) has beautiful faculty offices and research space. Some start-up funds are also available.

Ability to complete essential functions in the classroom and laboratory

The College of Arts & Sciences is the largest on campus and houses nine departments and 124 full-time faculty members.

Department

The Chemistry and Physics Department, housed in the recently renovated Garrett-Strong Science Building and CIE, has 11 full-time faculty members and offers a number of BA/BS degrees in Chemistry, Physics and Unified Science and a MS degree in Science Education. CIE houses state-of-the-art equipment such as XRD, XRF, TGA, FE-SEM/EDX, AFM, Confocal microscope, Polaroid microscope, FT-IR, LC/GC-MS, particle size analyzer, ICP-OES, NMR, HPLC, FPLC, and CHNS analyzer.
