Position

Assistant Professor, Chemistry/Physics

Contract Terms

Nine-month, tenure-track position

Position Summary

Teach primarily Methods in Elementary/Middle/Secondary School Science, History of Science & Technology, and Physical Science labs. It is expected the faculty member would be part of the Teacher Education Council working with the College of Education and Human Services.

Essential Functions

  1. Teach courses (twelve-hour teaching load per trimester) as described above
  2. Engage in a program of high quality research and scholarly activities
  3. Advise education students in chemistry and physics, mentor secondary science education students, advise graduate students in science education
  4. Serve on department and university committees as assigned
  5. Collaborate with districts, schools and teachers to promote science education through research, innovative teaching and outreach programs
  6. Other duties as assigned by the department chair

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. or ABD in Science Education or related field (must be completed by August 20, 2010)
Experience: Successful science teaching experience in the K-12 setting
Skills: Good classroom management and the ability to develop and deliver instruction that reflects current paradigms in science education; ability to work with diverse populations

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Ph.D. in Science Education or related field
Experience: Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching
Skills: Demonstrated potential for leadership in K-12 science education

Working Conditions

Typical university classroom, office and laboratory conditions

Typical Physical Demands

Ability to complete essential functions in the classroom and laboratory
