Exemplary Leadership Academy

ELA is an eight week, co-curricular course centered on The Student Leadership Challenge and focuses on helping students learn, connect, and apply the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership. Each week students will engage in several peer-to-peer discussions, participate in highly-interactive group activities, and begin applying acquired knowledge to their personal experiences. 
Students who are invited to join and accept membership in ELA must be willing to achieve and commit to the following: 
  • Eight week, co-curricular class that meets once a week
  • Applying the concepts learned in class to activities and involvement within student organizations
  • Assisting as a Small Group Facilitators for the annual Bearcat Leadership Training conference held once a year 
  • Willingness to learn, commit to positive change, and contribute to fellow peers for the betterment of all 

Requirements for ELA

  • 2.8 GPA
  • 30-75 credit hours completed (Sophomore or Junior status) 
  • Involved in at least one student organization 
  • Attend all ELA classes (unless with an excused absence)

  • Gaining valuable knowledge and practice in developing leadership competencies
  • Receiving a FREE Student Leadership Challenge Workbook
  • Attending a Leadership Graduation Ceremony 
  • Being eligible to present at various OSI and University sponsored programs and events 
  • Being eligible to serve as a Lead Green Mentor for one full academic year following graduation from ELA
  • Being eligible for a $250 scholarship upon successful completion of ELA
