Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about the Application and How to Apply

When will applications for the next camp be available?

Applications for Summer Music Camp become available for download and are mailed to schools and anyone on our mailing list in the spring each year.

What is the deadline to apply for Summer Music Camp?

While there is not deadline for application, we encourage you to apply as soon as possible, especially if you play a popular instrument such as flute, trumpet, or saxophone. Final payments, however, are due by May 24, 2013.

Do I need to send an audition CD or tape?

No.

Will I need to audition for ensemble placement when I arrive for Camp?

For band participants, YES. Auditions will be held to determine chair placement in ensembles, and will consist of major scales (chosen by the person listening to your audition) with key signatures up to four flats, full range chromatic scale (at the student's current ability level), a BRIEF excerpt (two phrases maximum) from a solo of the student's choosing, and a BRIEF excerpt (maximum two lines) from an etude of the student's choosing. If your solo is slow and melodic, choose a technical etude that demonstrates your technical facility, or vice versa. (Younger and less experienced musicians may use material from a band method or technique book used in their regular school band class. Check with your band director to make sure the material you choose is appropriate!)

Choir participants will have a placement audition on Sunday during check-in time.  You do not need to bring prepared materials for the placement audition.

How is my enrollment into camp determined?

Students are accepted into Summer Music Camp on a first come, first served basis.

What happens if there isn't room for me in Summer Music Camp by the time my application is processed?

You will be placed on our waiting list, and your check will be returned to you. You can find more information about the waiting list below.

I sent my application in a long time ago and haven't heard anything back yet. What should I do?

It is possible that we haven't processed your application yet. We get hundreds of applications back within a week of mailing out Summer Music Camp brochures, and process over 500 applications each year! At the height of the application time for camp, from March 1st until April 15th, we may not process all the applications until about three weeks after the postmark. Take note of the date you sent your application, and if it has been four weeks since you sent it in, please feel free to give us a call. We thank you for your patience.

What band level should I sign up for?

Your band placement is determined by the grade you are currently enrolled in (2012-2013 school year).
