First-time Freshmen and Transfers: Most major-specific scholarships can be applied for by completing the Standard Scholarship Application in CatPAWS by Feb. 1, 2013.
Letters after the scholarship name indicate who may apply for the award:

The following scholarships are made available by funds from the Northwest Foundation and are awarded based upon a variety of criteria as designated by the donors. No separate application is required. However, students must complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) to be considered.
Recipients shall be full time students showing financial need and academic achievement.
First Year Award: Through the American Dream Grant, Northwest will fill the gap between the cost of tuition, room and board, primary textbooks and the use of a computer for qualifying students so that the maximum annual payment the student will need to make during their first year at Northwest will be no more than $3,500 annually (combined fall and spring terms). To qualify, the student must be accepted to Northwest as a first-time freshman, complete the FAFSA and all verification documents by April 1 priority date and have an EFC (expected family contribution) as a result of the FAFSA of $2,000 or less (dependent or independent students). The student must also apply for all federal, state, institutional and athletic scholarships or grants that he or she might be eligible for. After all resources are added together, America Dream funds will be used to fill any remaining gap down to $3,500, the maximum contribution required of the student. All federal and state awarding guidelines will be followed.
Second Year Award: Renewable for one year as a tuition only scholarship. Combination of federal, state, and institutional grants and scholarship plus American Dream Grant covers regular tuition. Must meet the following stipulations:

Recipient shall be in good standing, have a minimum GPA of 3.25, demonstrated high potential for leadership, and shall be a senior in the year the scholarship is received. Recipient shall have graduated from a high school in the Missouri counties of Worth, Harrison, Gentry, Daviess, Clinton, Caldwell, or DeKalb.
Recipient shall be accepted, enrolled, and classified as an entering freshman by the University, maintain enrollment for the fall and spring trimesters, be considered a full time student, and reside within a CenturyLink local telephone service area. Academic achievement will be leading criteria, and strong preference will be given to recipients maintaining a 3.0 GPA.
Recipients shall be selected on the basis of financial need with no restriction as to the area of academic study except that recipients shall not have a declared major or minor in the area of physical education.
Available to first-time and continuing students who are graduates of high schools in Worth, Gentry, Harrison, or Nodaway County, who have declared a major in one of the disciplines housed in the College of Arts and Sciences, and who are enrolled on a full-time basis at Northwest. Scholarship may be renewed by maintaining at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA.

Recipients shall be incoming freshmen that are graduates of Atlantic High School in Atlantic, Iowa. If no applicant from Atlantic High School exists, the pool of candidates can be expanded to surrounding counties. Need and academic merit will be leading criteria.
The Marion & HJ Fischer Jr Memorial Fee Waiver (Fischer Tax Credit) is available for nonresident students and their families who pay Missouri state income tax even though they reside outside of the state. The nonresident student must have paid Missouri personal income tax or be a dependent on the tax return of another taxpayer who lives outside of the state and pays Missouri income tax. Business, partnership or property taxes do not qualify. Students will receive a reduction on nonresident tuition equal to the amount of tax paid. However, a student will not pay less than resident tuition. To claim this credit, a copy of the Missouri state tax return showing the student’s name as either the taxpayer or dependent and the amount of Missouri income tax paid needs to be mailed to the Cashiering Office (Northwest Missouri State University, Attn: Cashiering Office, 111 Administration Building, 800 University Drive, Maryville, Missouri 64468) OR faxed (660.562.1400). No separate application is required.

First preference given to entering freshmen from North Nodaway High School (NNHS) in Hopkins, Missouri, with second preference to continuing students or transfers from NNHS; and then, in the absence of NNHS students, the award may be used to assist any deserving student. The recipients shall be chosen based on admissions and financial assistance policies and standards offered by Northwest Missouri State University, with academic achievement and financial need the leading criteria.

Recipients shall have a declared a major in the area of business, demonstrate financial need, have a minimum GPA of 3.0. Freshmen are eligible if he/she has graduated in the upper one-third of his/her high school graduating class.
