The Upward Bound Math & Science (UBMS) Regional Center at Northwest Missouri State University is an educational program funded entirely by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education. Northwest's grant was written to serve high school students living in Iowa, Nebraska, Kansas and Missouri.
The mission for Northwest's UBMS program is:
"to generate and maintain in participants the skills and motivation necessary to succeed in a program of post-secondary education that leads to a career in the fields of math and science."
UBMS at Northwest works toward this goal using a strategy designed to expose participants to a variety of math and science enrichment topics not usually encountered in the regular high school curriculum, all at no cost to the students. This is not a remedial program, so UBMS expects that participants will complete math and science courses while in high school and pursue degree programs related to math or science in post-secondary education institutions.
