Dr. William Richardson serves as Associate Professor of Music at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, where he teaches Applied Trumpet, Jazz Appreciation, Brass Methods, Music Appreciation, and directs the Northwest Jazz Ensemble. Originally from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, he held teaching positions at Murray State University and Truman State University prior to his appointment at Northwest in 1999.  He holds degrees from Central Missouri State University (BME), Florida State University (MM-Trumpet Performance), and the University of Texas at Austin (DMA-Trumpet Performance).

Richardson is a member of the St. Joseph Symphony and the Maguire Street Brass Quintet.  He has performed professionally with the Illinois Symphony, the Waco Symphony, the Mid-Texas Symphony, the Abilene Philharmonic, the East Texas Symphony, and the Dallas Wind Symphony, among others. In addition, Richardson performed and recorded with the University of Texas Wind Ensemble and Symphony Orchestra, the Florida State University Wind Orchestra, and the Disney All-American College Show Band. As a member of the University of Texas Jazz Orchestra, he performed at the 1997 IAJE Convention in Chicago.  Richardson is active in many professional organizations, including the International Trumpet Guild, the Missouri Bandmasters Association, MENC, MMEA, Kappa Kappa Psi, the American Federation of Musicians, and serves as Faculty Advisor for the Upsilon Chi chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.  He has published articles in the Journal of the International Trumpet Guild and the I.T.G. Junior newsletter.  A Conn-Selmer clinician and performing artist, Dr. Richardson was recently named to the Board of Directors of the St. Joseph Symphony and adjudicated/performed at the 2006 National Trumpet Competition at George Mason University.  He lives in Maryville, MO, with his wife Niki and their two above-average daughters, Sarah and Leah.
