Dr. William Richardson serves as Associate Professor of Music at Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, where he teaches Applied Trumpet, Jazz Appreciation, and directs the Northwest Jazz Ensemble. Originally from Lee’s Summit, Missouri, he held teaching positions at Murray State University and Truman State University prior to his appointment at Northwest in 1999. He holds degrees from Central Missouri State University (BME), Florida State University (MM-Trumpet Performance), and the University of Texas at Austin (DMA-Trumpet Performance).
Richardson is a member of the St. Joseph Symphony , the Maguire Street Brass Quintet, and the Northwest Bell Tower Brass. He has performed professionally with the Illinois Symphony, the Waco Symphony, the Mid-Texas Symphony, the Abilene Philharmonic, the East Texas Symphony, and the Dallas Wind Symphony. A member of the 1987 McDonald’s All-American High School Band and the 1992 Disney All-American College Show Band, he performed at the 1986 Midwest International Band and Orchestra Clinic, the 1997 I.A.J.E .Convention, International Trumpet Guild Conventions in 1998, 2003, and 2004, and at the 2006 National Trumpet Competition. In the summer of 2008, Richardson presented three solo performances for the Phi Beta (National Fraternity for the Creative and Performing Arts) National Convention in Williamsburg, Virginia.
Richardson is active in many professional organizations, including the International Trumpet Guild, M.T.N.A., Phi Beta, M.M.T.A., Kappa Kappa Psi, the American Federation of Musicians, and serves as Faculty Advisor for the Upsilon Chi chapter of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia. He has published articles in the Journal of the International Trumpet Guild and the I.T.G. Junior newsletter. A Conn-Selmer clinician and performing artist, Dr. Richardson is completing a three-year term as a member of the Board of Directors of the Saint Joseph Symphony and was recently named a Fulbright Scholar to teach trumpet at the Jazeps Vitols Latvian Academy of Music in Riga, Latvia, for the spring, 2010, semester. He lives in Maryville, Missouri, with his wife Niki and their two above-average daughters, Sarah and Leah.
